Mommy Mundo Mompreneur Summit 2013

Last year, I was lucky enough to attend Mommy Mundo’s Mompreneur Summit. I actually had no plans of going because from my understanding, I was no mompreneur. I had no business. I had nothing, no brand, nothing to sell, and nothing to market. Janice was quick to correct me. “Eli,” she said, “The Painter’s Wife is a brand.” I value Janice’s opinion, and so I attended. No expectations, no speculations, just an open mind. And I learned.

From the Mompreneur Summit I walked away with these points to ponder:

  1. I am not “just a mommy.” I am a voice, an influencer, a writer, and a representative. With that comes responsibility, balance and a firm need to stick to my guns and keep believing in the causes I champion and the brands I choose to associate with.
  2. My target market is not necessarily my real audience. I have the capacity to reach out to worlds and minds beyond my “mommy circle” and I shouldn’t be afraid to explore.
  3. A mompreneur is a special breed – a multi-tasking, astute and wise business woman with a family and a business to juggle. Time management is key, priorities must be spelled out.
  4. Being a work-at-home mom has no secrets. The knowledge is there to share. There is no magic formula. You are the magic that makes it happen. Learn, share, expound, learn some more. A work-at-home mom IS a mompreneur.

While I don’t think of The Painter’s Wife as a business, it became clear to me how it really is a brand. It made me think of where I want this blog to go, what I want to do with it, and what I want it to represent. It was a very fruitful afternoon.

This year, the Mompreneur Summit comes back full force with an amazing tagline: Passion and Purpose. Ahhhhh!

I’ve always believed we can use our passions to become successful. “Do what you love” they always say. Getting from point Love to point Success can be a daunting task, but inspiration has always been an effective key to opening up a world of possibilities. Well, inspiration ba kamo? Just take a look at the Mompreneur Summit 2013 roster of speakers:

You can read more about the speakers here: http://mompreneurmanila.com/speakers2.

I do have to give a special woot-woot to AJ and Audrey Dimarucot, the power couple (talaga naman) behind the awesome clothing brand, googoo&gaga. I’ve made no secret that Basti and I are fans of their stuff. We’ve been friends since birthing class and are now co-parents in our kids’ school and I am thrilled they are going to speak at the summit. They are the perfect examples of Passion and Purpose.

Even though I won’t be there (and you’ll see why very soon! Exciting!!), I encourage all moms who have a business, thinking of starting a business, or simply trying to find inspiration for passion and purpose to attend. It’s well worth the time!

Introducing the Mommy Mundo SoMoms! (Giveaway Alert!)

I’ve been blogging since 2002. I’ve got 10 years of blogposts lying around LiveJournal, Blogspot and the soon-to-be-deleted Multiply, and it’s a hodgepodge of shopping finds, angst, sharing of experiences and mind-dumping, sprinkled with a lot of fun and some bad decisions.

Now, as a wife and mother, this blog has grown to more than just a sounding board (or whining board as some of my earlier blogposts reveal) to being a platform for advocacies, a way to connect to other parents, and in some cases, as a business. Writing has always been my language, and blogging became a natural extension of my real-life loquacious self. More mothers on the internet made social media the new “neighborhood playground”, and it was through Facebook, Twitter and blogger events that I met a lot of fellow blogging moms who became colleagues and friends.

An organization that has provided me with a lot of opportunities for myself, the blog, and Basti (hee hee) is Mommy Mundo. Through them I met a lot of brands that wanted to partner up and support my tiny corner of the website, and I’ve enjoyed writing and sharing about these brands and products that I believe in. I always look forward to something Mommy Mundo organizes – it’s not just an opportunity to learn and to share, but to meet up with these moms I have conversations with over Twitter and have come to call as friends. And with that, Mommy Mundo SoMoms was formed!

SoMoms stand for Social Media Moms, composed of a founding group of twelve blogging moms who are all different in personalities, advocacies and blogging goals. But one thing I love about all of these ladies is how fun they are, and how their blogs reflect their personalities and interests. Here are the SoMoms!

Mommy Milkshake 2011

This weekend is the annual Mommy Milkshake Run! I wasn’t able to join last year’s because of the newborn baby situation. Now I still can’t join because, frankly, Basti and I are not the earliest risers on the block.

(Click on the image to go to the Facebook Events page)

But! Basti and I will try and make it to the Breastfeeding Expo at Mercato Centrale. It’s the perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday, don’t you think?

See you there!

Moms On The Floor: Breathe, Sing, Shop!

Aside from the occasional mommy-geared event I would produce with the different production outfits I used to work with, I wasn’t aware that mommy events were HUGE and were EVERYWHERE. I think I just sort of glazed over them as a single gal. Well, not anymore.

Last weekend, I trooped over with my friends Marilen, Hans and their little baby boy Santiago to Mommy Mundo‘s Moms On The Floor event at Fully Booked in Bonifacio High Street.

There were booths, booths, booths and we went home with quite a bit of swag. There was a nursing top at the Mommy Matters booth I wanted. Must contact Candace to get it!!!

Maricel of Medela, one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. (You’re so thin, ha!!! Winner!)

Isn’t Santiago such a cutie-pie?

With parents who look like this, you can’t miss.

Basti wore his Dr. Seuss onesie, a gift from my friend, Iya.

There were nice activities, such as Laughter Yoga, Kindermusik, a baby massage demo and Breathworks.

Some of us from birthing class even ran into each other for a mini-reunion!

Ana and Ozzy

But alas, the activities were too much for my little Basti. Here’s his valiant effort to stay awake during Kindermusik.

Dozing off in 3…2….1…

And pretty soon, he was snug as a bug in the sling.

Shhhhhh…

We had tons of fun. Thanks Mommy Mundo! I hope to be there at your Clearance Sale at the Big Red Barn next weekend. MORE SHOPPING!!!!
