The SaYa Versatekk Carrier vs. The SaYa Semistretch Carrier: A Comparison

I bought a SaYa Versatekk at Mama.Baby.Love’s Expomom booth. I’ve been wearing it the past few days and I just wanted to share my observations about it and compare it with the Semistretch version.

  1. The SaYa Versatekk is easier to put on and take off. It being nylon and spandex, it slides unto your baby effortlessly and is less prone to tangles and knots. If you do tangle up while wearing the Versatekk, it’ll actually still be manageable. A tangle in the semistretch version is SaYa hell.
  2. The Versatekk’s plus is also its minus. Because it’s smoother and stretchier, I find it hangs lower than the semistretch and gives Basti more room to squirm. When carrying Basti in front facing me, he can lean back, almost to the point of spilling from the carrier, something he couldn’t do with the semistretch.
  3. Again, since it’s stretchier, I found I had to get the smallest size. I initially thought I would get a size 1, but eventually got the size 0 because I found the size 1 too stretchy! Basti was spilling out of the carrier! Never mind the sharing-with-hubby part. I’ll teach him how to use the ring sling.

I like wearing my SaYa with the sleeves over my arms:

(Note: Do you guys like my hair? I had it fixed by Cherry at Toni & Guy. I no longer curse when I see myself in the mirror)

SaYa Versatekk

But today I scrunched up the sleeves to hang like straps over my shoulders and I found that this is the best way to do it with the Versatekk. More stable and less prone to slipping off. (Excuse the bagong-paligo look)

Overall, I’m happy with the Versatekk too. The reason I bought it is because I want to take Basti swimming and the material is very much like the Gypsy Mama Water Wrap. I’m going to try showering and swimming with Basti in the SaYa Versatekk. I imagine it’s going to be a great travel carrier since it’ll dry easily and is really quick to put on and off. No SPF information on their material though. I think I’ll ask about that.

If you’re looking for tips on how to wear the SaYa carrier, I have posts on that here and here. Here’s to more SaYa success!

Shopping Report

I’ve got new stuff to rave about.

1. Printed designs of the Sarah Sleep Bra from Mama.Baby.Love.

I like wearing this, like a dirty little secret. When something bad happens during the day, I always think “at least I’m wearing heart-printed underwear.”

2. JL Childress Bottles N Bags Stroller Organizer, ordered from The Tiki Room.

Because I am not complete without my Starbucks. And I hate digging around in the diaper bag for my phone! This works well for me and I find the zippered compartments adequate for my phone, keys and wallet. The elasticized drink holders keep the drinks in place, but you have to do a bit of stretching and maneuvering before you can get a cup or a bottle in there. It folds away nicely with the stroller; I don’t even take it off anymore. You can actually use it as a belt bag too. (But who wants to do that. Wag naman magmukhang nanay masyado)

3. Basti’s Feeding Gear

  • Munchkin Suction Bowls
  • Tommee Tippee Heat-Sensitive Feeding Spoons
  • Playtex First Sipster Cup
  • Babycubes Food Storage System

A bowl is a bowl, a spoon is a spoon and a sippy cup is but a sippy cup because BASTI DOESN’T WANT TO EAT OR DRINK ANYWAY. *end exasperation here*

The Babycubes, though, are working beautifully.

A friend of mine brought them over from the US for me and we’ve been using them to store Basti’s food. We’ve been able to cook in batches and portion them out so we can measure how much Basti grabs, throws and spits out eats each meal.

On the way from Diapers.com is this:

So that I can bring food for Basti and snacks for me, wherever we go. Cute no? It should be at the Johnny Air Cargo office by now.

Goodies Galore: Shopping Finds at the Belly Mama Baby Fair

So I made it to the Rockwell Tent for the Belly Mama Baby Fair last August 21. Yuh, I went shopping again. Here’s the loot!

1. Babinski Baby Receiving Blanket

I got this super cute receiving blanket to keep in the diaper bag. They had awesome prints, and each blanket was only 200 bucks!

So many other designs available for purchase on their website.

2. Babinski Nursing Bib

Also from the Babinski booth, I also bought this nursing bib/vest as an alternative to my Nursingmom cover.

The material is fabulously wrinkle-proof, it squashes to nothing and is a breeze to put on and take off!

3. Baby shoes from Obsidian Trading Company.

Three for PhP 450!! How can you not buy them??

Basti already wore them.

He wears the Converse-style sneakers with his favorite googoo&gaga onesie we bought from Tita Audrey!

4. Nursing Dresses from Mama.Baby.Love

You all know by now how much a fan I am of Jenny Ong’s Multiply store. I visited her booth and couldn’t resist buying these two dresses.

I wore this Blissful Babes Wrap Dress to my hubby’s exhibit opening last week.

And I wore this one from My Lovely Closet when I gave a breastfeeding testimonial at The Medical City’s Parenting 101 workshop.

5. Indigo Baby’s Jar of Hope

All-natural healing and soothing for baby and mommy!

It was a really good fair. I saw a few products I’d like to get for Basti when he’s older.

This will never end. God help my husband. :p

P.S. Thank you to Topaz Horizon‘s Frances Amper-Sales for nominating this blog in this year’s search for the top 10 emerging influential blogs. Now I know there’s at least one person who reads me! Hehe.

The Sarah Sleep Bra: A Quick Review

So in a previous post, I mentioned that I purchased the Sarah Sleep Bra from Mama.Baby.Love.

So I wore it to sleep because that’s what it’s meant for. Well, it’s so comfortable that I never want to take it off. It has adequate support and has enough elasticity to keep nursing pads in place. The thin, breathable fabric makes it perfect for the warm weather. Heck I’d buy this bra even if I wasn’t nursing, just for wearing around the house. It’s cheaper than Mamaway’s version too.

Postscript: I mentioned in a previous post that I didn’t like the Dynabelly brand for nursing bras without explaining why. Jenny of Mama.Baby.Love. asked me why, because apparently that nursing bra is her bestseller. Personally, I prefer the QT because it’s easier to peel off when it’s time to nurse. The Dynabelly is well-padded and when unhooked, just sorts of hangs there. It takes some effort to put it aside so the baby can nurse comfortably. For me, that’s not a good thing, because all it takes is a few seconds of delay before the baby starts wailing for milk. I have a feeling it sells better because of the padding – the QT isn’t padded at all. But I wear nursing pads with it all the time, so that doesn’t bother me!

It’s Friday the 13th: Nursing Bras and Breast Pumps Anyone?

..and this entry’s title has absolutely nothing to do with what I’m writing about today.

I actually wonder how I even come up with entries. I hardly go anywhere and my life revolves around a roly-poly infant named Basti. This is my new favorite picture of him.

At the moment, Basti and I are exiled to my parents’s house because The Painter needed some time alone with his new creation. Artists! Hay! He goes through this at least once every two months and I have to pack up Basti, our paraphernalia, leave lots of food in the freezer and wait till he asks us to come back. He doesn’t even want the maid around. Again… artists!! Hay!!!

My thoughts just jumped randomly to the new nursing bras I ordered from Mama.Baby.Love.. I reordered the QT Nursing Bra and decided to try out the Sarah Sleep Bra.

I also ordered the Blissful Babes Nursing Bandeau in brown. I already have this in black.

I super love wearing the bandeau under my kimono dresses. All I have to do is slide down one sleeve and go!

Today I was supposed to confirm my order for my breastpump at Amazon.com, but a snafu with HSBC delayed it. I shall blog about the ridiculous situation with HSBC another time when I am not so mad at them anymore. All I can say is I’m paying my credit card off, then I’m canceling my credit card with them. THEY SUCK.

I did enter the Babymama contest on Facebook, but the other contestants are so rabidly campaigning that I am so far behind in votes. I am actually considering if I should just buy the Spectra Dew 300 instead of the Medela Swing I originally planned to get. I get a double pump for the same price. What do you think mommies?
